Practice Recap

These past few weekends, we have been focusing on race prep for Tempe and Spring LB race. While individual improvement and strength is important, it all matter how we translate that power and intensity on the boat as a team.

  1. Race start - race start command is 6,5,4,3,2,1, UP 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1, POWER 9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1, REACH!

  2. Sync - Sync with the main strokers in the front of the boat and in the middle of the boat. Eyes up at all times.

  3. Snap back recovery - do not hang back at the end of the pull. Always engage that hip to initiate that recovery, round the outside elbow just a little bit, relax the wrist to snap the blade back forward. Remember, at the same time, you are also twisting your back and shoulders, rotating the body back into the A-frame position.

  4. Power - Exhale with every stroke and kick hard with your outside leg to give power.

  5. Race finish - The race command is “Alright XG...Finish it NOW!”
